Held on 1st September 2019 (just 366 days after the last meet, in fact), over to 35 Accord CL7s gathered at Raffles Marina at the most western part of Singapore for another meet and greet amongst owners of the remnants of the 7th Generation Honda Accords that remain in Singapore.
Despite being a grey import, the Honda Accord CL7 2.0A and Euro R (and also the Civic FD2 Type R) were imported straight in to Singapore from Japan as parallel imports – and a vast majority of the cars have entered their 2nd round of life on their renewed Certificate of Entitlements, being spared from getting exported or getting chopped in half. This popularity is no abnormally though, as there are still large followings of Acura TSXs and Accord CL7/9s from the Americas through to Asia.
If you missed it, the CL7s last gathered on 2nd September 2018 at Carros Center Singapore to form a numeral digit ‘7’ as a homage to the chassis. (Click the link here)
Organizers Jason Cai and Tazzie Yeo took weekends to recce, plan and brainstorm for ideas and locations for the meet which required much correspondence before the venue was secured.
Jason, said, “Fortunately, I had great support from the team who provided me ideas and solutions to executive such a successful event. It was definitely exhausting under the sun baked weather, but it was totally worth it as everyone who attended clearly enjoyed themselves over a session of bonding. With thanks to our sponsors from Colours9, Weistum Advisory and Rainforest Stickers Paradise, we were able to cater for a small buffet spread for everyone to sit and chill at Raffles Marina’s Discovery Pub. Nevertheless, we see room for improvement and we will aim to one-up ourselves for next year.
We asked some owners on their thoughts of owning an Accord over other options in the market –
Patrick Seah, owner of the very pearl white car on hypebeast-level TE37SL wheels,“The Honda Accord CL7 Euro R is a good all-rounder car to begin with decent fuel consumption, power, handing and comfort. From therein, it is really up to individual owners to modify to their taste and preference – everyone has their own thresholds. To be frank, I had considered a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 or a Mercedes Benz 300CE W124, but the Euro R won at the end of the day.”
Roger PK, owner of the matt blue car,”You can never go wrong with a Honda. My Euro R has been my all-in-one machine. Spacious yet sporty and powerful. I use it for my family, my work and also for burning rubber. It just gives me an adrenaline rush everytime I go past 6,000RPM... you know what I mean? PRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! I am having loads of fun and will continue to do so. My Accord is not just an engine with wheels... it is like my second home! Last but not least, as my friends always hear me say - VTEC IS KING BABY!”
