Titled ‘A Day For Honda’, the event was organised with one objective in mind, to bring forth Honda enthusiasts for an afternoon of good fun, surrounded amongst like minded people with one goal in mind – to enjoy the brand that Soichiro Honda founded some 72 years ago in 1946.

With Carros Centre serving as the venue for yet another large scale automotive event, A Day For Honda kicked off as early at 2.30pm when cars began forming up for entry to level 7 of Carros Centre. Expecting a huge turnout, Automoment implemented pre-registrations with various Honda clubs as there were limited slots available for each group.

To prevent gate crashing, special event entry decals by Carousell Motors were distributed in the run-up to the event. A registered total of 550 Honda bikes and cars were amassed on the roof of Carros with hundreds of participants and attendees showing up in droves to support the event.

We caught up with Royston Chong of Automoment after the event for a few words.

9tro: Hi Royston, congratulations on yet another success event. Shortly after the last event – 2x4@Carros, you surely have not put your laurels down! Could you tell our readers more about A Day For Honda?

Royston: A Day For Honda was conceptualised about a year ago with a friend who was a Honda fanatic. He mentioned that around the world, there were events such as Honda Days and Honda Festivals. Given that Automoment had been previously involved in similar events such as Subaru Fest and Civic Fest, my friend (Ian) suggested that we organise something of this nature and extent.

Subsequently, my team took on the task to consult multiple stakeholders, including members from the numerous Honda clubs and groups around in Singapore before we took on the task. We are very happy with the turn out and the support from the clubs as well as the sponsors and vendors.

9tro: We can tell that Automoment had put in maximum effort for A Day For Honda, can you tell our readers how much work was involved to gather the car groups… not forgetting marketing efforts to drum up support?

Royston: To be frank, there was indeed a lot of time and effort invested for this event, compared to the events that we had organised in the past. At Automoment, our ethos is to make car meets and car related events more eventful and impactful, to be activity-based and more family friendly.

Many expect the event to be special and with such expectations, we had to ensure that A Day For Honda lives up to the hype. Fortunately, we had the ideas and great support from the various Honda clubs whom we had meetings with at least two months prior to the event.

Apart from the actual day, we had also called upon groups to meet up days prior to the event for a briefing for arrival timings, parking allocations and distribution of car labels amongst other administrative matters. This made it easier to coordinate among the groups to prevent excessive bottlenecks.

With great assistance from my team based on the ground floor, we only allowed vehicles with the approved label to drive up to level 7. Spectators were free to park on the ground floor which had ample space, before taking a quick ride up the elevator to the top.

9tro: How about the sponsors and vendors?

Royston: This event was self funded and would not have been possible without our Sponsors: Carousell as the Official App, Monster Energy as the Preferred Energy Drink, Driven Performance, Koh Guan Chua Workshop, The Spray Paint Shop, Diecast Toys SG, The Brake Specialist  and DUCE Performance. Back by popular demand, emcee duo Twins Gone Wrong were back to wow the crowd, F&B vendors kept the crowd full and hydrated with Old Chang Kee serving Singaporean favourites, and Island Supper for some snacks.

For drinks we had Gong Cha and Monster Energy, who brought along their Monster Energy girls to provide sampling of the US No.1 energy drink. Gong Cha was a real refreshing addition to a car event and I am real proud that we brought them in. Not forgetting 9tro – the official media for A Day For Honda. A big thanks to 9tro for their consistent support of our events.

There and back again, Gong Cha hit show ground with their digital station. We were quite sure they were sold out by the end of the event.

Our friends at Legion of Racers were on hand for group versus group virtual racing!

We also caught up with two Honda owners for some thoughts of the event as well.

Alvin Yuen, a Honda CRX owner said “I think the event was good. The organiser did well planning for the event. Perhaps a suggestion for improvement and inclusiveness is that they could arrange the other car brands to park at lower levels.”

2018 A Day For Honda

While it was a day to celebrate Honda vehicles in Singapore, there were definitely a few noticeable absentees including both generations of NSX, S660, local Preludes (A third generation Prelude from Malaysia did drop by) and common platforms such as the City were missing from the event.

We would all hope – no less – that the next Honda day would be more inclusive with owners of the missing platforms coming forth to celebrate a common ideal together.

2018 A Day For Honda

Jason Cai, Honda Accord Euro R CL7 owner who also participated in the Honda Parade mentioned “A Day For Honda is the best cars and bikes event I have ever attended in Singapore, and is the most successful and awesome brand specific event I must say. Most people often wonder what the big deal is with cars and bikes events, and what is so good about them. The answer is not just about these machines getting together to be shown off, but it is the PASSION – and the event nailed it.”

“What I loved the most was that as we were able to get all makes of Honda models to have a get together session in one meet and get – for owners and enthusiast to mingle and network. I am looking forward for more of such events. Last but not least, special thanks to all the sponsors, partners, supporting associations, fellow various Honda clubs and groups, and Speakers for making A Day For Honda possible.”

The next event at Carros Singapore will be none other than 9tro’s 9th Anniversary Edition of the 9tro Alliance Meet – Be there or be square.
