Sepang, Malaysia - Into its seventh annual edition, the API Racing 2017 Sepang Track Day was held on the 4th of June (Sunday) at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia. Organised by one of the biggest names when it comes in automotive suspension and brake kits in Singapore, API Racing Asia Pacific and their official partner, Automoment (the same guys behind the incredibly successful Autotest series), this was one adrenalin-filled event not to be missed by any car enthusiast!
9tro, being the official media of the event was on site at Sepang bright and early to take in all the action that transpired, seeing old lap records being broken and new ones being made, not to mention catching up with familiar faces and making new ones as well!
We were of course not the only ones there as the API Racing event had a slew of sponsors and partners that included - Official Lubricant: MPM Oil Singapore - Rev Solutions Pte Ltd; Official Photography: Benjamin King Photography; Participating Brands: Hardrace Singapore/ FOX Exhaust Systems Singapore/ N-Sports N-Brake Singapore/ XADO Singapore/ AuraShield/ T.M. Works/ OTOSaver/ Yokohama; Participating Garages: Motoren (MTR)/ DHM Otomotive Werkz/ Autotrac/ BMS Motorsports Pte Ltd/ TSG Motorworks/ CarCreed.
The track day started with a driver’s safety briefing held at the Sepang Circuit Media Centre before nearly a hundred drivers descended to the paddocks and donned their helmets to hit the tracks. Commencing sharp at 9am. The four hour session was saw drivers of all skill ranges, from first timers wanting to clock some track time right up to seasoned veterans hoping to set the hottest lap. The atmosphere was warm, fun and definitely very friendly as drivers pushed themselves and their rides to the limits in a safe controlled environment. In total there were 70 cars signed up making this the biggest ever API Racing Sepang Track Day ever!
Right after the session, we were fortunate enough to catch up with Mr. Wei Kewei, the man behind API Racing as well as its track day for a short interview to learn more about his thoughts.
9tro: What’s the purpose of an API Racing Track Day and how did it go?
Kewei: The API Racing Track Day is aimed to reach out to the general public, if you realise, we do not hold it in a race manner and we are open to all makes and models of cars, as long as the drivers are passionate about motorsports they can definitely join us but of course they need to follow our rules and regulations. Today was definitely a success, it did not matter how fast the lap timings were, but most importantly it was incident free and everyone had fun! We were one of the only few brands to start having our own track days and race queens. I am just really glad that we are into our seventh annual session!
