Singapore - Last Friday saw the inaugural Asian Driver Search (ADS) crown its first ever Kart Challenge SR1 winner - Reizo Sukatmo, a 19 year-old Indonesian who out drove 40 other competitors that came from all parts of South East Asia.
For those new to the scene, you might ask what exactly is ADS? Well we all know you need extremely deep pockets if you want to take part in motorsport racing, ADS was formed to help, support, nurture upcoming talents to fulfil their motorsports ambitions based on their abilities and talents, not the span of their budget or financial ledger.
The best part is ADS is open to just about anyone, young and old, from experienced drivers who want to kickstart their motorsports career or an amateur who wants to exhibit their talent - there’s a ADS programme to suit their needs.
In the Kart Challenge SR 1 held here at the KF1 Arena, contestants like Reizo got behind the wheel of a race kart and pitted themselves against other hopefuls which started on an extremely wet track in the morning that gradually dried out into the afternoon. ADS also has a race car category where participants will compete in actual cars autocross style. The champions of each category will get the chance to race professionally with Team ADS Racing.
Aspiring drivers apply to ADS with their class as indicated by their experience and suitability. ADS will then employ a selection process and invite suitable drivers and karters to contend in the ADS drivers programme.
Selected individuals are then required to pay an entry fee according to the category chosen and selected to participate in the qualifying process. ADS will cater and accommodate all participants according to their experience and budget.
During the qualifying and selection process, ADS competitors will be judged by a panel of experienced race drivers through a variety of categories which include timing, skills, sportsmanship and endurance level. The top drivers selected will then progress into a shootout for an opportunity to move onto the next level at no expense.
