Drift action, lots of gravel and spectacular wheel-to-wheel duels: On 18th April the FIA World Rallycross Championship (WRX) will start into its new season. And of course we’ll be there again as well. Once again we’re working closely with GC Kompetition – and this year even more closely than before. Because this season, the team will be competing as “GCK Bilstein”!
The Swede Anton Marklund will also be back in the Renault Mégane R.S. RX. The former European Rallycross Champion is eager to compete for the World Championship title this season. Anton Marklund joined the team in 2018 and played a key role in the development of the Rallycross car. His second place at the French WRX round in Lohéac last year meant the best result in the history of the GCK team.
Anton looks forward to the start of the season in Barcelona: “I just can’t wait to get started. Together with Bilstein we made great progress last year and showed really good speed, and with the extra time and better preparations over this winter we are ready to start 2020 with a bang.“
The continuity of the collaboration between the French Rallycross team, Anton Marklund and Bilstein could become the decisive factor in the battle for the championship in 2020. After intensive work over the winter, including the development of the engine and a new version of the Bilstein shock absorbers, Anton should be well equipped to have his say in the fastest times this year.
Being able to build on the real developments with the Mégane R.S. RX. from last year, and the existing relationships I have with the team and technical partners, allows us to start the season strongly”, Anton is convinced. “I want to say thanks to Bilstein for all the support they’ve given me and the team so far and for committing to us even more this year – together we push to be the best and it’s the kind of partnership we need to be successful.”
Head of Motorsport Martin Flick is also extremely positive about the cooperation between GCK and Bilstein:
“At a Bilstein Company meeting last year, I made the claim that we would be the World RX Champions with the GCK team in 2020. After a year of ongoing development, I am very sure that the GCK Bilstein team has set the course for the necessary maximum competitiveness. We are very proud and happy to work with the very best in the world on this fantastic story.”
GCK team owner Guerlain Chicherit is looking forward to building upon the strong relationship between his squad and Bilstein and is excited to have Anton driving for GCK Bilstein: “I’m stoked to have Anton with us again in 2020 – he brought GCK our best ever result last season and has shown great trust in us from the start. He’ll build on last year and be even stronger this year, and, together with Bilstein, will be sure to put down a super successful 2020!”
