Sepang, Malaysia - On invitation from our very good friends and partners Monster Energy, we returned to Sepang International Circuit for the official winter testing for the 2020 season of MotoGP.
Unveiled for the first time as well, were the pair of Yamaha YZR-M1s in its 2020 team livery, with the legendary Valentino Rossi and Spanish rider Maverick Vinales once again at the helm for the season. While not much changes could be seen from the overall designs as compared to 2019, the strategic changes for the year falls mostly within the garage pits.
We were also present at the unveiling of the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team, with Italian rider Franco Morbidelli and French rookie boy-wonder Fabio Quartararo riding for the team this coming season.
This year’s preseason official testing also saw every single full-time premier class rider set a lap time under the 2min bracket, with Fabio Quartararo of Petronas Yamaha SRT clocking the fastest timing during the three day testing with a 1:58.349. Setting the fastest timing at the testing was Ducati’s Jack Miller, with a blistering quick 337.5km/h down the front straight; KTM’s Pol Espargaro with 331.3km/h; Honda’s Cal Crutchlow and Marc Marquez with 330.3km/h and Yamaha’s Maverick Viñales with 329.3 km/h.
With a mere 0.345s difference between all six factory teams, this year’s MotoGP season is already panning out to be the most exciting season ever. With the Official Testing in Sepang now over, we look forward to the Official Testing in Qatar from the 22nd till the 24th of February, with the 2020 MotoGP season kicking off to a start from the 6th till the 8th of March in Qatar!
