Singapore - Wagon. Estate. Station wagon. To the layman, these words all conjure up the same image of the good-old hatchback with an extended boot. However, to us enthusiasts, they mean so much more.
With the current resurgence of fast wagons such as the new Audi RS6 C8, capturing the imagination of many enthusiasts as the perfect quick yet practical family vehicle, it is little wonder why the interest amongst enthusiasts is still so high.
With that, we turn our attention to Yip’s Audi A4 Avant B8. Despite previously owning an Audi A4 sedan of the same generation, Yip was seeking something that was more practical but still within Audi’s product lineup. With the RS4 out of reach and boot space for family outings being a prized commodity, he wasted no time to procure this car when it went on the market. No less, in black, and Quattro.
Wasting no time, orders were made online for the mods that did not take too long to arrive. Craving a more aggressive look, Yip purchased an Xclusive Customz Widebody kit from the UK, pairing it with ABT Sportsline fender flare inserts and a RS6 front and rear bumper. Not wanting a dull black, Blu Astraeus (a colour from the Lamborghini Urus) was selected to complete the overall package – it works out since Lamborghini is owned by the Volkswagen Group.
In order to fill the widened arches, a fusion of east meets west was done with a set of forged Rays G25 wrapped with wide but thin Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires to pair with the German chariot. Brembo GT6 six piston brake calipers with cross drilled rotors take on the responsibility of providing superlative braking performance for stopping on demand.
To keep the ride family-friendly, the honour of suspension duties were given a set of Bilstein B12 Pro-Kit paired with Eibach springs. According to Yip, they provide a firm yet compliant ride, great for a car used by both him & his family with no complaints.
Already potent with a 2.0-litre TFSI engine, enhancements such as an APR intake, uprated intercooler and SuperSprint exhaust were sourced and installed.
Being a used car purchase, wear and tear is simply inevitable. Scouring beyond the region,Yip stumbled across a full Audi RS4 interior that was dekitted from a car that met an early demise. Wasting no time, he immediately snapped it up along with a B9 RS5 steering wheel to complete the interior transformation.
All that was left were the finishing touches with some few gauges from Defi and Ultragauge, and a Thule roof & bike rack to support his hobbies.
Beauty lies in the eyes of beholder, but to us, this A4 has reached a balance of perfection - a practical wagon with aggressive looks and performance while still possessing the comfort for family use.
What’s in store next? He wouldn’t tell us, but from his expression, it would be something special.
