Honda Jazz - Against the Grain

Pampanga, Philippines - If you are reading this story, then you are clearly an enthusiast with an interest in cars and modification. We probably share the same passion and while others might not understand why we modify our cars, bikes or trucks, we do! As the saying goes “our cars are an extension of our personalities,” and they function more than just a means of transportation.

For the passionate, our cars are connected to our souls, it makes us feel good and complete each time we have new parts installed, each time we wax and polish, even replacing old and worn out parts! This is pure passion and not necessarily something everyone would understand. Each modification gives us an unexplainable pleasure, especially when we get it done the right way.

The same is true with Ritchwell, modifying cars is part of his world which has since developed into a business. This fine example of a Honda GK you see here was not modified based on what he saw in magazines or catalogs, but a pure representation of his personal style and preferences. Let's find out more behind Ritchwell's built:

9tro: Please introduce yourself.
Ritchwell:
Being a car guy, I am very decisive in what I want to modify and the parts that I want to acquire. Decisive but not impulsive! I'll first do my homework and that usually means researching and watching tons of reviews before I am convinced that it's want I want.

9tro: How and When did you get into the car modification scene?
Ritchwell: I had a Honda Jazz GE back in 2012 and was inspired by modified cars from not just the Philippines, but mostly of Thailand. I believe that the Honda Jazz scene there is very unique and has its own personality, seldom do you find two Honda Jazz with a similar setup there. They tend to mix and match rare and quality parts, and create really out of the box modifications that you don't usually see in catalogs. Most importantly, they are not just aesthetically pleasing but also properly serves its purpose as well.

9tro: How many cars have you owned before?
Ritchwell: The 2019 Honda Jazz GK you see here is the second car I own, the first being the Honda Jazz GE.

9tro: Which of them you like the most and why?
Ritchwell:
Definitely this GK model as it has a manual transmission. Driving a stick shift allows me to appreciate every little thing, from feeling more connected to the drive, to the various modifications and upgrades.

9tro: When did you acquire the Honda Jazz?
Ritchwell: I acquired this Honda Jazz GK this year (2019).

9tro: What was your initial plan with it?
Ritchwell: I bought a white car because my initial plan was to have a simple, yet stunning and clean-looking car with quality parts. It is still a work in progress, I am still pushing through with that plan!

9tro: What is your first modification?
Ritchwell: I always start with the rims and the first upgrade were a set of Volk Racing TE37 Classic by Rays. Selling it has been a great regret though, because those TE37 Classics are now a discontinued model. Currently, I have a set of CE28 Club Racer in scholarship red, also by Volk Racing. To me, these rims gives more life to my car because of its vivid colour, in contrast to the clean white color of my car.

9tro: What was the most complicated modification you have done so far?
Ritchwell: Definitely the YS Racing Titanium Crossbar! It was a lot trickier to install than it looks.

9tro: Hardest parts to find?
Ritchwell: Without a doubt, my Endless Big Brake Kit with 294mm two piece E-slit rotors E-slit. I literally travelled across the sea to Thailand just to get this particular set. The Endless Big Brake Kit is usually paired with 282mm rotors, and I wanted the 294mm versions. Definitely worth the travel!

9tro: What do you love the most about the car?
Ritchwell: While on the modification game, you tend to love the car more and more because every part that you modify reflects your personality. I am specifically fond of the Honda Jazz because there are so many options to choose from, which means endless possibilities.

9tro: Future plans?
Ritchwell: Right now, I am highly satisfied with this modification, but I am still looking forward to add more quality parts to it, so let's just see.

9tro: What are your future plans?
Ritchwell: Hahaha! Wait and see!
