Pathum Thani, Thailand - The “Pathum Style Car Show” focuses on customised and tuned cars, it’s a bit of a crazy show, it’s quite off beat and has a real ‘old skool’ feel to it – and complimenting the all manner of weird and wonderful cars, in fact just about everything under the spectrum that rides on four wheels rocks up, are the girls. Lots and lots of them. And then lots more. More than you can imagine.
This show revolves around Bangkok’s many car clubs, everything from micro cars to luxury sedans, from pickup trucks to vans, station wagons to SUVs, sportscars to supercars, drift cars to drag cars. And the clubs bring girls decked out in their colours to represent them.
Then there are the supplier booths, not as numerous at this show maybe as others, but they certainly provide strength in depth and roll out the models to lures the visitors in.
The organisers have their models too, title sponsor of the event Prince Lubricants weighed in with its signature scantily clad black and yellow clad models. So, in short, there were lots and lots girls.
They were to be found all over the show, which has a gritty, underground vibe to it. However, during the opening ceremony, the models clustered together at the main stage in a big group and one quickly realised that there were many dozens of them, filling out the stage and then the space in front.
For the fans there was the opportunity to buy stickers and apply them on the model of their choice. The chance to stick the small round decals to the ‘enhanced’ parts of the girls wasn’t something that many could resist so models quickly became festooned with decals. It was competitive too, each sticker the respective girl gained she could trade in for a 100 baht, so everyone joined in the melee.
The usual opening ceremony festivities over and the models fanned out all over Pathum Thani Speedway to have their photos taken with different cars deep into the night.
Then there was the “Bikini Car Wash” which proved a big draw with the massed ranks of photographers. There was a real scrum as the chosen girl washed down a Prince-wrapped Mitsubishi Triton, although it’s doubtful anyone in the pack shooting away even remembers it was a Triton!
The excitement got too much halfway through the car wash and the massed ranks of the snappers surged forward leaving anyone without a very short focal depth lens right out of the game. How well she managed to clean the truck in the end remains to be seen.
Show vendor Compact Brakes imported a traditional Thai game “Sao Noi Tok Nam” which is more usually seen at rural temple fairs. It literally translates as “Young Girl Fall In Water”. It involves a girl sitting over a big water tank while players have to throw a ball and hit a lever which then knocks her perch away and the girl is unceremoniously dunked into the water tank. Always very popular at countryside fairs, it’s less often seen at a car show and it wasn’t shot of players.
That’s the style of this show, big turbos, polished up engines, nitrous canisters mounted everywhere, outrageous body kits, clear Perspex bonnets and of course lots and lots of girls. So, enjoy all the non-car action of “2020 Pathum Style Car Show” in these photos.
