Singapore - Over 250 cars, that’s just how many members together with their families turned up for the 7th Anniversary of the Elantra Club Singapore (ECS)! Festivities kicked off earlier in the afternoon with 50 Elantras forming the number seven on the roof of Carros Centre for a photoshoot, not to mention impressive drone shots (coming real soon!)
After that the 50 cars then convoyed to Orchid Country Club to join the rest of their fellow members for a massive birthday celebration complete with sponsor booths, on-stage games, performances and of course a sumptuous dinner buffet. We spoke Nuz, President of ECS to find out more about the club.
9tro: When and how was the club formed?
Nuz: Elantra Club Singapore was formed in 2011, as a non-profitable organisation officially registered with the Registry of Societies in Singapore by ECS’ pioneer car enthusiasts Mr Vincent Teh, Mr Lawrence Kum, Mr Alwin Lee, Mr Derek Tan, Mr Jethro Ng, Mr Hoong Wei Shiang, Mr Terry Teo and last but not least, our dear late Mr Jeff Tay.
Together with Mr Jeffrey Low of Komoco Motors, Elantra Club Singapore was born and started with only 10 members. The purpose of setting up the Club was to build a friendly Elantra Community, make more friends, learn from one another while spreading positive words and reviews about the Elantra and to help one another if they have any issues with their cars.
It is also a common ground for members to enjoy benefits and special packages available through Komoco Motors such as extensions of warranty or members discounts on servicing packages. To date, Elantra Club Singapore is one of the only few car clubs in Singapore that is officially registered with the Registry of Societies in Singapore.
Our official members have increased to 540 owners with over 5,000 members in the ECS Facebook group. As an Official Club, ECS is obliged to follow the Code of Governance for Registered Societies in Singapore which requires in our Constitutions that the supreme authority of the Society is vested in the General Meeting of the members.
The Annual General Meeting should be held within 3 months (latest 6 months) from the close of its financial year. The administration of a Society shall be entrusted to a Committee consisting of minimally the President, Secretary and Treasurer. And all office-bearers should be elected by the members.
After per our last AGM dated 14th April 2018, ECS elected its new 6th Committee for 2018/2019. The elected Committee members are responsible for managing the Club and acts as Admins and Regulators in keeping the Club to its Code of Conduct and standards.
The elected Committee members are as follows:
President: Nurul Huda (more commonly known as Nuz)
Vice President: Edmel Arollado
Secretary: Andrew Leong
Treasurer: Desmond Tan
Marketing: Ng Jie Kai
Marketing: Ng Chong Seng
Logistic Team A: Muhammad Azim
Logistic Team B: Alex Aw
Logistic Team C: Roy Wong
Logistic Team D: Samuel Tham
Group motto: One Community, One Elantra
We are one Family regardless of which era of Elantra we are in or what our background is. Our members are made up of young adults, professionals, and senior members. This is what makes the team super dynamic, interesting and fun!
We also encourage members to always bring families along as we believe in family bonding, as a Club and as a Family. Most of our meet-up activities includes games, and also at kid-friendly environments. As an official Club, we also encourage members to drive responsibly and familiarise themselves with our Code of Conduct.
9tro: What are the activities/meet-ups that the club does on a regular basis?
Nuz: The ECS Committee organises monthly meet-ups at various locations so that members are able to get together to enjoy a meal, chit chat, look at each other rides, discuss and share knowledge but most importantly, they give the opportunity for friends and families to bond with one another.
Our Malaysia roadtrips are usually held during the school holidays, which happen on about 3 to 4 times a year during the March, June, September and December periods.
We are also involved in charity drives and car wash events. Some of the activities that ECS have done for 2017 include delivering rice to the Jamiyah Nursing Homes, a Charity Car Wash for the Singapore, Association for the Deaf and the upcoming Boys Brigade Share-a-Gift hamper deliveries to less fortunate homes.
This is our 6th year participating in this event and it has proven to be a great learning and bonding experience for families. Most of our members will bring along their children to help with the distribution and it allows them to feel fortunate and blessed to be where they are now. It’s a very good activity for all of us to give back to the community.
On the topic of celebrations, we have it three times a year, which includes our big Anniversary (our Elantra Club Birthday), our Annual General Meeting and End of the Year (Christmas/ Lo-Hei) Celebrations.
9tro: How was the 7th anniversary celebration for you guys?
Nuz: It was a very successful event with over 200 official members and an additional 100 over families and friends joining in the celebrations. The event started off with presentations and a display of car accessories and services from brands such as Thinkware, Matters car mat, Coating services, Painting, Performance enhancements and many more.
Then everyone had fun in the games and won attractive lucky draw prizes. Even children got to play games like the Elantra Colouring contest and walked away with attractive prizes.

9tro: What are the plans for the future of the club?
Nuz: Our plans for Elantra Club Singapore is to grow as a Family. We don’t wish to be the biggest community, but we want to be the most united and organised car club in Singapore. To continue to have fun and enjoy each other’s company with activities and road trips, and to do good charity work as a team.
We also wish to have a wider variety of co-sponsors and partners so that ECS can continue to actively organise events and meaningful activities with the community. Elantra Club Singapore is a not-for-profit organisation therefore most of the events and activities are supported by generous organisations and companies.
We will constantly ask for feedback from members and improve our activities and organise more cohesive events with other Korean car models and other Hyundai Cars Clubs in Singapore and the region. We are very honoured that at the moment, we have a strong and united group of members as well as friends from various clubs in Singapore such as the Veloster Owners Club, Kona Club, i30 Club and also from across the border in Malaysia such as Elantra Malaysia Club, Veloster Elantra Family (VEF) and the Korean Car Club.
These friendships have helped us in many of our Malaysia road trips and it allows our Singapore members who have never entered Malaysia before or have never experienced participating in big major events to feel that they are part of something bigger with our Malaysian Elantra teams.
Elantra Club Singapore will be doing their longest convoy trip, a 900km drive to Hatyai, Thailand, from Singapore this December. This will be for a charitable cause and also to meet with Elantra Club Thailand.
9tro: Any words for our readers who might want to join the club?
Nuz: For any Elantra/ New Avante (2019) owners, we welcome you to join our big family in Elantra Club Singapore. We hope that this will be a place for you to gain new friendships, share knowledge and benefits as a family. There will be many upcoming charity and Malaysia roadtrip events, so do join us now.
